@ Kim May’s birthday party

@ Kim May’s birthday party

Jon and Kim sure know how to throw a party! It was pretty much an all-day event. We all had a blast.

The pre-party was the shit. We showed up at their house at around 2 in the afternoon. There were three tables worth of food, and a seemingly endless supply beer and sodas, and a big ass cake. Everyone was in a great mood. We hung out there for a few hours, got stuffed, and went home for a quick rehearsal.

Then it was on to Bumps Bar for the show. The show started over an hour late. However, once everything got going, it all ran pretty smoothly and sounded great.

I didn’t get to see everyone’s act. I’m not a huge a rap fan either, so I really only made it a point to see the only other band there, Samyaza.  For some guys that were willing to come all the way from Milwaukee to play at a tiny small-town bar for beer, they kicked some major ass! I look forward to playing another show with them soon.

The after-party was outside back at the May house, right after bar close. Just about the whole bar showed up for it, and we continued to party until 5 in the morning. Good times…

Thanks to Jon and Kim for letting us play our set at their party. Thanks to Bump for use of the bar. Thanks to all our friends for showing up and hanging out with us! We hope to see everyone at the next event…

@ The Hole

We had an awesome time playing at The Hole. Close to 40 people showed up. We performed decently, and Eddy Putnam was an excellent host. He kept us supplied with food and drink all night. We played some dice and cards, got all sorts of buzzed up, met a whole bunch of new folks, and didn’t run into one douche.

The deco was really cool, too. We could totally forget that we were hanging out in a basement. There was lots of ambient lighting, curtains everywhere, couches, game tables, and seats for about 30 people in there. There was even a greenroom complete with a video monitor watching the stage, another screen for video games, another for just regular TV, couches, and coolers full of beer, sodas, water. Luke, our bass player, said he felt more comfortable hanging out there than he ever has at our local hangouts.

We watched Eddie and Tony Sullivan do an improvisational set before we hit the stage and they weren’t bad at all. We played our full set at around 10pm, took a break, and then we did some improvisational stuff of our own. Then we were asked to play an encore, so we did a shorter set. It felt like we played 3 sets, so we were exhausted. We sat around for a while longer, socialized and played some more drinking games.

All in all, a very excellent time was had by all. We look forward to playing Eddie’s benefit show in September!

Next Saturday: Bump’s Bar in Clintonville, WI. Show starts at 8pm!!!

Sweet!

We reached our goal today! 1000 fans on the internet by Mid-July, and we haven’t even finished May yet. That’s awesome! Thanks everyone! Hope to see some you at the June 30th show!

My first Soundcloud collaboration!

My first Soundcloud collaboration! Random artists were paired together from all over the world to see what they came up with. After a month, today’s the day to release all the tracks. I wrote this one with Tom Moore of http://soundcloud.com/indigolab

I did all the guitars, bass, vocals, and random noise bits. Tom did all the drums and all technical bits that make it sound like I knew what I was doing (no small feat, I assure you). Thanks for all the hard work Tom!

Go here: http://soundcloud.com/groups/sct-soundcloud-tombola-2012 to listen to what the many other participating artists have released!

I’m currently working on a collaboration with this guy, Indigolab. He lives in the UK, and writes what he calls “Ambient Folk” tunes. Kind of a mix of electronic and acoustic. Pretty cool stuff. Give it a listen.

Our collaborative track is due out on May 5th. Look for it on Soundcloud!

SoundCloud Tombola Names Revealed!

A couple of weeks ago, we mentioned the SoundCloud Tombola, a group run by users, looking to make random pairings of sound creators to collaborate with each other.

The names have now been drawn (literally, check the video!), and the collaborations can begin. There’s a full run down of info about the group at it’s blog, and over at the SoundCloud group.

We’re looking forward to hearing what comes from these random pairings!
